Opticonnects offers a range of passive WDM devices for both Dual Fiber as Single Fiber Bidirectional connections, using Wave Division Multiplexing technology. Passive WDM is a technology that enables transport of multiple network connections over optical fiber. Passive means that no power is required for the device to operate. Passive WDM devices are used in combination with WDM optics that are placed directly into the switch or server. Opticonnects passive solutions are as straightforward as possible to install and to operate and require an absolute minimum in maintenance effort. Our passive WDM portfolio includes:
- Single Fiber Wave division Multiplexers (CWDM and DWDM);
- Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexers (CWDM);
- Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexers (DWDM).
Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) is the best and most cost efficient solution for operating distances of up to 80 km and a limited number of connections. For longer distances and more connections Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is the recommended technology.
Optical Add and Drop Multiplexers make it possible to tap one or more channels from a multiplexed DWDM or CWDM connection. This makes it possible to direct a link without the need of interfacing all data on the link. OADM's are available as Single sided, meaning in and out in the same direction or dual sided meaning in and out both directions of the fiber.
