Optical Transport Network (OTN)
As result of the growth trends, a new Optical Transport Network (OTN) layer evolved over WDM network enabling more efficient convergence of traditional SONET/SDH and new data services. The OTN layer is designed to for highly effective mapping of different protocols and rates into the same 10G uplink pipe providing high bandwidth capabilities, low heat dissipation, compact rack space requirements, and comparatively low cost. Furthermore, OTN infrastructure enables transport over longer distances with less regeneration sites by utilizing forward error correction (FEC) mechanism embedded within the OTN layer. Thus, the OTN layer forms the most efficient and cost effective Multi Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) over WDM infrastructure

10G CWDM DWDM OTN Transponder
10G CWDM DWDM transponder PL-1000TN is a member of PacketLight’s Optical Transport Network (OTN) family. It is highly integrated 10 Gigabit transponder for unified transport of different protocols such as 10Gbe LAN/WAN, STM64/OC-192 and 8G/10G FC over common fiber optical network.
The PL-1000TN CWDM DWDM transponder is designed to meet the market demands for low power consumption, rack space savings and reduction in the overall solution CAPEX and OPEX.
TheOTNlayer provides two additional key benefits:
1) Easy management and maintenance of the fiber optical infrastructure regardless of the service type
2) Enhanced Forward Error Correction codes suitable for extremely long distances in amplifiedDWDMnetworks, eliminating the need for expensive regenerator sites and enabling forming of an effectiveROADMbased solutions built upon cascading many amplifiers across the infrastructure.
PacketLight‘s PL-1000TN has three operation modes: mapping of multirate 8G/10G client protocols over OTU2 line, transparent transponder for 8G-11G protocols and 3R regenerator.
The PL-1000TN can be managed by HTTP/ HTTPS web browsers, CLI over Telnet/SSH, PacketLight’s EMS or by 3rd party SNMP system.
Multi Service Provisioning Platform
PL-2000 provides efficient and flexible aggregation layer of multi-protocol/multirate sub-10G services into single 10G uplink trunk. The 10G OTU2 uplink can aggregate simultaneously SDH/SONET, Ethernet, Fibre channel and Video services, thus providing a perfect access platform for multiple clients’ needs and allows merger of legacy and new services transparently. The rates and protocols supported range from Fast Ethernet to GbE, 1/2/4G FC/FICON, STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12, STM-16/OC-48 and others.
PL-2000 supports two modes of operation. In one mode, it can aggregate up to 16 multirate/multiprotocol services into a single 10G OTU2 uplink pipe with a second 10G OTU2 uplink pipe providing full line protection. In another application, PL-2000 can aggregate 16 (dual 8) multirate/multiprotocol services into a 20G aggregated uplink pipe with OTU2 capability. This application is a perfect fit for ring applications and high bandwidth point to point applications.
