A stable connection on a remote island somewhere in Madagascar.
A stable connection on a remote island somewhere in Madagascar.

During a video call with one of our clients on a remote island in Madagascar, we look at each other and realize two things: 1. We are fortunate to be able to do this, and we are immensely grateful for it. And 2: We can do this. And that second part is made possible by modern technology. We have been combining travel and work for several years, the two of us. And recently, the three of us. Our faithful companion with two antennas travels with us: the Celerway GO.

What is it?

Quite simply, it’s our ‘internet box’. We can create a stable internet connection anywhere in the world in a secure manner, using 1 or 2 SIM cards or by directly connecting to another network. We turn on the box and connect our laptops and/or phones like any other normal Wi-Fi point. Thanks to its reliable battery, we can work for hours without having to look for a power outlet. Whether we are sitting on a secluded beach in Madagascar or hiking in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, the connectivity remains surprisingly robust.

Why not just use your smartphone hotspot?

Firstly, smartphone hotspots tend to quickly drain the phone battery. Imagine being in the middle of an important video meeting and suddenly losing your connection because your phone dies. Very annoying. With the Celerway GO, we have up to seven hours of uninterrupted connectivity if we don’t have access to electricity.

Secondly, the Celerway GO utilizes two simultaneous cellular WAN connections (meaning you can insert two SIM cards). This means the device can connect to two different networks simultaneously and switch between them for the highest speed and stability. A smartphone hotspot generally can handle only one data connection at a time. We usually buy two SIM cards from two different providers to achieve maximum speed and stability. The device automatically balances the connection between the SIM cards and ensures optimized connectivity. Our experience is that we have a much more stable connection with the box compared to our phone hotspot.

Thirdly, the Celerway GO provides a more secure connection. It comes with a built-in VPN that ensures our online activities are secure no matter where we connect. This is especially important for client work. While you can use a VPN on your phone, it can put additional strain on the phone’s processor and slow down the connection.

Finally, there’s the management aspect. The Celerway GO can be remotely configured, updated, and managed through the ‘Nimbus remote administration platform’. This provides us with a level of control and convenience that a smartphone hotspot simply cannot offer.

So while connecting via a phone hotspot may be convenient for occasional use, the Celerway GO is designed to provide consistent, reliable, and secure internet. It offers everything we need to travel the world and continue working. We have two relatively small antennas, but if you have space in your bag for an additional large antenna, you can extend your range even further.

Conclusion

All in all, the Celerway GO has made our way of life much easier. This small, sturdy box with impressive performance has become an essential part of our remote workspace. And the best part is that you don’t need to be a network engineer to make it work. Just turn on the box, connect, and you’re good to go. So, if you ever plan to pack your office into a backpack and explore the world while continuing your work, consider taking a Celerway GO with you.
