At Netways Europe, we believe in creating high-end network solutions for Ethernet and fiber optic infrastructures. Recently, we were challenged by an ISP, Internet Service Provider, to renew their existing backbone. After careful consideration, we chose a solution from Huawei. “Together, we maximize value for the customer.”
The ISP needed to renew their existing backbone for the transport of internet and data services. The current solution was ten years old, and obtaining the necessary components was becoming increasingly difficult. Furthermore, the capacity no longer met current requirements.
Efficient Approach
Netways was approached to assist in implementing a solution that meets the current requirements for a robust and stable network, enabling the ISP to future-proof both the company and its customers. The focus was on scalability and support for the right technologies.
In close collaboration with the customer, we defined a clear set of requirements. This approach ensured that both the customer and ourselves had a clear understanding of the requirements the chosen solution needed to meet. It resulted in an efficient and improved process, from design to implementation. Based on these requirements, the desired KPIs were then established, and a high-level design was developed. We then conducted a product selection.
Scalable Solution
This careful process led to the implementation of the Huawei S6730 series as nodes for the new backbone. This solution offers scalability by allowing multiple units to be combined into one logical unit. It supports traditional technologies such as MPLS, as well as new techniques such as VXLAN and automation.
The S6730 series is prepared for increasing speed requirements and is equipped with 100G uplink ports and various speeds for downlink ports. The ability to combine these units into a logical unit makes this product line particularly future-proof. If necessary, a model with higher-speed downlink ports can be easily added to meet requirements.
Valuable
After the product selection, we created a Proof of Concept (PoC) setup to verify that all requirements were met and to validate interoperability issues. During this process, Huawei provided support where necessary. The interoperability challenges provided interesting insights, and Huawei made an adjustment to an implementation to ensure its success.
“It is extremely valuable to collaborate with a manufacturer that is heavily committed to research, development (R&D), and innovation,” says Luc Niggebrugge, director and co-owner of Netways Europe. “This enables us to jointly maximize value for the customer.”
Maximizing Benefits
After a successful PoC phase, the ISP decided to proceed with the implementation of Netways’ proposed solution, with the Huawei S6730 series as the foundation. The detailed migration plan is now progressing smoothly and structured. Due to thorough preparation and extensive testing, customers hardly notice anything about the location migrations. Moreover, the migration moments are carefully chosen to minimize impact.
Both customers and service providers benefit greatly from the new solution. Customers are flexible in offering services and can meet various needs and requirements, even for high-capacity connections.
